How do I join?

Students may join the Committee at any of our weekly meetings or by emailing the Vice Chair of Membership. Joining is a simple process that takes only a few minutes.

If I am not sure if I want to join, what do I do?

Prospective members are more than welcome to come to meetings and see if they want to join. Meetings are a good place to meet other members and hear their experiences.

What is the time commitment?

There is no set time commitment for Committee members – one reason why it is such a popular organization. Members may attend as many or as few events as they please in any given time period. Many of our great members are also members or leaders of different organizations on campus. We encourage this diversity!

Are you cheerleaders?

No. The Rally Committee is in charge of promoting Cal Spirit in various ways. We are the biggest fans on camps. There are other spirit groups on campus that work with the Rally Committee. The Cal Mic Men (or Yell Leaders) are in charge of leading cheers. The California Dance Team also attends all major athletic events. More information on these groups may be found here.

My high school ASB/Student Government put on a lot of spirit rallies. Are you guys like a student government?

At Cal, government is separated from spirit activities. The Associated Students of the University of California (ASUC) is the governing body and representation of the students. The Rally Committee is in charge of all spirit activities.

Do you get free tickets to Cal sporting events?

Yes and No. First, all Cal students get in free to almost all sporting events except Men's Basketball and Football. Naturally, Rally Committee members are no different. As for basketball and football, the Rally Committee does receive a pre-determined number of complimentary tickets to distribute to its members. However, in many ways, the tickets are not free. The Rally Committee receives these tickets because of our continued service across the campus and at these games where we organize card stunts, firing the Victory Cannon, and wave the flags to name a few. Even though we would love to take all of our members to all sporting events, for impacted games, we must select those members that have been most active in the Committee. Thus, we generally discourage potential members from joining just to get in free to sporting events. However, if you are a Cal sports fan and you are willing and excited to get more involved, the free tickets can be a great perk in a great organization.

Is membership expensive?

The simple answer is no. If you decide to become a member, the committee has very small dues - only $20 for the year - and we require that you purchase the Rally Committee's blue and gold rugby, which serves as our official uniform. However, it is important to remember that you are more than welcome to check us out at meetings or even some of our events before you need to make a financial commitment.

Where can I get more information?

If you are interested in the Committee or have any questions, please feel free to email our Vice Chair of Membership.
