The Big "C"

On our rugged eastern foothills, lies this California symbol, hopefully in King Alfred's yellow. The maintenance of the "C" is the job of the Director of Security; we keep it gold whenever others deem it necessary to contaminate it.

California Banner

IT HAS RETURNED!!! After almost a whole season without poles, the California banner hangs once more over the Student Section at home games! The Director of Security holds banner guard during games to watch over this symbol.

Cal Flags

In the four corners of Memorial Stadium, at the half court at volleyball games, behind the basket at basketball games, the Director of Athletics and other Rally Commers wave the Cal flags every time the band strikes up a Cal song.

California Victory Cannon

BANG! Since 1963, the Rally Committee has been in charge of the cannon, which has fired after every runout, touchdown, field goal, and victory at Memorial Stadium. The Cannoneers are in charge of bringing to the platform on Tightwod Hill.

Card Stunts

At home games, look to the student section at half time for this Cal invented tradition that has swept the nation. The Director of Stunts designs the pictures and we Rally Commers set them up before the games...and clean them up afterwards. Props to us.

Midnight Singing

The Friday before every home game, people gather in front of the Campanile at midnight to rejoice in the Spirit of California and lift their voices in praise. Singing to show their love of Cal and have a good time with friends.

Stanford Axe

The Chairman of the Rally Committee is Custodian of the Axe. And whenever Cal wins the Big Game, UCRC is in charge of it. During the year, you can see it on display in the lobby of MLK. For the full Axe story, look at the beginning of the section on Big Game Week.

Big Game Week

(For more details about these events, look at our specific Big Game section on the website).
  1. Cable Car Rally: Rally Commers every year meet on the Spoul steps to take the BART into the San Francisco. We head over to Ghiradelli Square, where we travel with the Band by Cable Car into Union Square where we put on a rally for everyone around.

  2. Night Rally: Starting at Bowles, the Band, Dance Team, Micmen, Rally Commers, and Cal fans gather together on this exciting trek through the streets of Berkeley. Going through the frats, the Units, and ending at Sather Gate, we sing Cal songs and chant cheers and pump up California Spirit.

  3. Laugh Yer Axe Off: This special event involves hilarity of all shapes and sizes, featuring Squelch comedians, Jericho improv skits, Artists in Resonance performances, and other comedic acts.

  4. Tree Chopping Rally: Have you ever wondered why the Stanfurd mascot is a tree? Have you ever wanted to see trees get chopped down...and we're not talking about the ones that house the tree people next to the stadium.

  5. Bonfire Rally: So there's this fire. In the Greek. It's huge. It's hot. And it features performances by Men's Octet, Overtones, past yell leaders doing the Hakka, the Chancellor, and many more.

Charter Week

Fun and Games to celebrate the anniversary of our universities charter on March 23rd, 1868. ~Labor Day: Rally Commers do their part in maintaining the Cannon Platform, the Big "C", and the road up to it.
