Welcome everyone! My name is Lindsay King and I'm your Secretary this year. Because of the length of this meeting and the incredible amount of important information contained therein, I'll try to be as concise as possible and I'll get to the chase to let you know what went down at tonight's meeting.
Welcome!
Ashley wanted to invited you to this fun meeting! We have a lot to cover concerning Big Game Week, the second round of rugbies arriving, and men's basketball! Enjoy!
The History of the Stanford Axe, Part Two
At this evening's meeting we had the pleasure of hearing Rally Committee alumna extraordinare Maya Goehring-Harris, a former Cannoneer, Secretary, and Chairman relate to use the second half of the history of the Stanford Axe. If you missed out, check out your Rally Committee Information Books or the UCRC website @ ucrc.berkeley.edu
Join the Historian Subcomittee!
Margaret, our beautiful historian, wants you to join her subcommittee! Because of the immense number of amazing events the committee puts on during Big Game Week and our need to capture all of these events on film for our scrapbook and yearbook, she invites any and all interested people to apply for her subcomm.
As a member of the subcomm, you'll be working behind the scenes a bit with Margaret to do what the Resource branch does best--capture committee history and memories! Margaret has already sent out the application once this week but will being sending it out again so you can apply. We highly encourage it!
*SPORTS!*
Your Director of Athletics Dustin Shean has a bounty of small sports for you to attend! Keep in mind that you need to have attended five small sports all semester as part of your Big Game Week requirements, so squeeze them in! Here it goes:
Thursday, November 4th Men's Basketball v. Chico State at 7:30 pm : one of the first games of the season, and an exhibition game. Basketball is going to be AMAZING this year, so head out! You will want to arrive at Haas Pavilion early enough to head in with Rally Comm to our awesome section!
Swimming v. Fresno State at 1 pm: Head on down to Spieker and watch some Golden Bears swim their butts off!
Monday, November 9th Men's Basketball v. Murray State at 8:00 pm: go cheer on our men! They will be a great time this year, so let's support them. Please arrive at 7 pm, which will be gate time so we can head in and be settled before the Cal Straw Hat Band arrives.
CARD SORTING and all it's glories....
Please go out to sorting! With two home games in the next two weeks, we've got to be sorting maniacs since we're nder a lot of pressure to get things done quickly. That said, Laurel will be holding a sorting tomorrow, Thursday, November 5th, from 12-5 in Unit 3, Norton Hall.
Laurel also emphasizes that you need to have been to at least one card sorting all semester as one of your BGW requirements, so if you haven't gone yet, go!
Dorm Stunts
Laurel described today the amazingness that is dorm stunts. If you'd like to help out and live in either Norton or Putnam, please contact her at ucrc.stunts@gmail.com
*N*o*o*n* R*a*l*l*y*
You know the drill! 12 o'clock noon at the Sproul steps. Wear your rugby, and in the wisdom of Tim Gunn, "Make it work!" Get excited for what could potentially be the BIGGEST Touchdown Monday of the year!!
Cookie Baking..om nom nom nom.....
Of course, Midnight Singing wouldn't be half as special without some great goodies to fill your stomachs afterward. And seriously, who doesn't want to start the earliest moments of game day on a sugar high? You can help make some of the magical deliciousness at cookie baking. Baking this week will be held:
Midnight Singing..fa la la la la :)
Come out to Midnight Singing! This week's singing will be at the reflecting pool at the western edge of Memorial Glade near Moffit Library. Why come, you ask? Well....I don't know, but I think it might be important to know my Cal songs for gameday! Midnight singing is also one of the best ways to practice. Come sing, come mingle, and come eat baked goods afterwards!
FOOTBALL V. OSU!!!
Alright guys and gals, it's the second to last home game this year! Gate time will be at: 1 pm sharp. Do not be late! ANd make sure to bring your student IDs.
Game Day Jobs
For every home game we've got, we've also got some awesome game day jobs. These are the heart and soul of your game day with the Committee, so don't miss out! No need to worry, though. If you haven't had a chance to a game day job you've wanted to yet, we've still gota game left!
Please also remember that if you are doing a game day job, you need to wear khaki pants or shorts and brown or black close toed shoes. The only exception to the khaki rule is if you are on Cannon Crew, for obvious reasons.
Here's a quick run down of game day jobs:
Cannon Crew
One of the best damn jobs you can do! Yeah, you're outside the stadium, but the view is unparalleled and you get to send the opposing team a metaphorical, explosive, UN 1.4G "SUCK IT!" Now, what could top that? Oh yeah, that's right...firing the victory shot :) Don't miss out! For more information, contact your UC Cannoneers Becca and Patrick at ucrc.cannoneers@gmail.com
Cal Flags!
Some of the most visible symbols the Committee keeps care of are the Cal Flags waved on the field. We do a run out with them, wave them at the beginning of the game, and every time a Cal song is played by the band. If you're doing flags as a game day job, you get to wave for a quarter. For more info, contact your Director of Athletics, Dustin Shean, at ucrc.athletics@gmail.com.
Banner GUARD
Yet another amazing game day job! Keep random kleptomaniacs and plotting, evil Toejams from stealing our beloved banner while spending a quarter of the game at the top of the Student section with your DOS, John Clemons. You can see all the game plays unfold and get some cookies in the process :) For more info, contact John Clemons at ucrc.security@gmail.com
Spirit Signs!
Spirit signs are an amazing opportunity to be on the field and PUMP UP the crowd! Cheer on your Bears while encouraging other fans to do so as well! For more information, contact your Vice Chair of Spirit, Briana Tischener, at ucrc.vcspirit@gmail.com
Walking Banner
Walking Banner is a unique and exciting game day tradition at Cal! You get to attend the pre-game Rally on Sproul plaza and lead the California Walker Banner with the Cal Band, the Dance team, Oski, the Mic Men, and hundreds of other tried and true Old Blues to Memorial Stadium. If you have any questions about this game day job, please contact your Secretary, Lindsay King, at ucrc.secretary@gmail.com
Coat Check Wanna check out the Hall of Fame room? Think you'd like to chat up some alumni and get some free lunch in the process? Then coat check is for you! You can take coats for these lovely Old Blues, eat, and then enjoy the game! For more info, contact Lindsay King at ucrc.secretary@gmail.com
Card Stunts!
At almost every home game, we have a kick butt card stunt show. We set up these stunts and reward ourselves afteward with Cheesy Sticks, aka, Heaven in bread and cheese form. For more information, contact Laurel Johnescu at ucrc.stunts@gmail.com
S-P-E-L-L-O-U-T!
Last but not least, we have the CALIFORNIA spellout! Paint yourself, and get (half) naked on television! You might even end up on TV or in Sports Illustrated. Make sure to bring sunscreen if its a day game and if you are female, wear a white sports bra! For more info, contact Sara Leon at sara_leon@gmail.com
Membership is AMAZING!
Post-OSU Party
Location will be announced after the game. The theme for this evening's festivities is "Graffiti," so dress accordingly!
Theta Dodgeball!
Your Director of Community Relations, Megan Gritsch, would like us all to support the two Rally Committee teams entered into Theta Dodgeball, a fundraiser being put on Kappa Alpha Theta, a house in which by our very own Historian, Margaret Hatch, is a member!
Theta dodgeball raises money for for CASA (court appointed special advocates), and our teams need your help to raise some money and get a great place in the brackets for the tournament. Starting tomorrow through Friday, there will be money wars going on at the Theta Dodgeball table at Krober Fountain. The way it works is that coins, any value, count as positive points, and all dollar bills are negative values. So all you need to do is give your spare change!!!! Any coin you have would be greatly appreciated and goes to an amazing cause. So please, please, please go by the dodgeball table at Krober Fountain and drop some spare coins in the jars for RALLY COMM BLUE or RALLY COMM GOLD. Again, it's just coins we want!
Big Game Week Extravaganza!
With BGW looming in under two weeks, strap in! Tonight Ruben went over requirements for Rally Committee members during BGW. You will find them summarized below.
BGW Requirements
All committee members are required to do the following during BGW to earn their tickets to the 112th Big Game:
Have completed five (5) sporting events throughout the entire semester. If you need to check, please e-mail Ruben for the roster of small sport points at ucrc.membership@gmail.com
Have completed two (2) hours of Pre-BGW publicity
Have participated in one (1) Early Morning Flyering, or EMF.on either Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday of BGW.
Have gone to two (2) Special BGW Events put on by Katie :)
Have completed two (2) hours of bonfire set up on the Friday of bonfire.
Attend the BG Bonfire Rally. But why wouldn't you? It's effing awesome.
For more details, please see the document attached to this email. Additionally, please read further for information as to how to complete some of these requirements. Further, stay tuned for a master BGW calendar which will be distributed to the committee within the next week.
BGW Banner Painting!
One of the great things the committee does to decorate campus for BGW is to design, paint, and hang themed banners off many of our campus' most prominent buildings. In order to prepare these banners, Ryann needs your help! She will be doing all of this preparatory work next Monday through Wednesday from 12-5 in the second floor of Eshleman, the Senate Lounge to be specific.
And yes, working on these banners DOES count toward your Pre-BGW publicity hours.
BGW Banner Sewing!
Another Pre-BGW publicity opportunity for you! Each year the Cannoneers must sew a fake Stanfurd banner to burn on the Bonfire structure because it would be very very bad if we stole and burned a real one. This banner must also be 100 percent cotton to burn cleanly, so we have to make it ourselves. Becca and Patrick would love your help with this task and yes, you can also earn credit towards your Pre-BGW publicity hours by pitching in. This banner sewing will be in the same location as Ryann's banner painting, but only next Wednesday.
Bonfire Music Mix!
Because our fire is AWESOME and burns so strongly you can get sunburned from the radiant heat, it's unsafe for anyone to be on the stage during the rally when the fire reaches its most intense point. Because of this, each year the Director of Rallies makes a "bonfire music mix" to play when the fire burns. Jessica is inviting you to give her music suggestions for the mix! If you have a great song you think could be added this year, please email her at ucrc.rallies@berkeley.edu
Marketing: bringing you spirited discounts!
The marketing branch wants to remind you of a few things:

More discounts brought to you by your Marketing Branch! You'll get 3 percent off per touchdown that the football team makes at the student store on Monday. Go cheer on the bears and then buy some Cal gear!
The Rugbies are here...and other financial transactions!
